Michael Vandenbergh came to Vanderbilt after establishing himself as one of the nation's leading environmental lawyers. Prior to joining the Vanderbilt faculty in 2001, he was a partner at Latham & Watkins in Washington, D.C., practicing environmental law. Professor Vandenbergh also served as Chief of Staff of the Environmental Protection Agency from 1993-1995 and as a law clerk to Judge Edward R. Becker of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit from 1987-1988. Professor Vandenbergh's research explores the relationship between formal legal regulation and informal social regulation of environmentally significant behaviors. Professor Vandenbergh teaches Environmental Law, Private Environmental Law, and Property.
