Professor Peter Lown teaches intellectual property, communications law, and conflict of laws. Peter Lown is the Director of the Alberta Law Reform Institute, having been appointed for a third five-year term in 1998. Peter jointed the faculty in 1969 and has taught a wide variety of subjects, including conflicts, wills, corporate and commercial law. Until his appointment as Director and secondment to the Institute in 1988, Peter's main concentration was in the area of Intellectual Property, Communications Law and Corporate Law. In addition to a host of Faculty and University Committees, Peter has served as Executive Director of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice (1983-1985); President of the Uniform Law Conference of Canada (1993-1995); Treasurer of the Federation of Law Reform Agencies of Canada (1990 to date); and Board Member and Chief Financial Officer of the Canadian Forum on Civil Justice (1998 to date). Special Interests: A former Olympian, Peter remains active in several elite sports organizations.
