John Tobin has a B.Comm and LLB(Hons) from the University of Melbourne and a LLM(Dist) from the University of London where he specialised in international human rights law. He has practised as a solicitor with a commercial law firm in Melbourne in the areas of corporate law and employment and industrial relations. He has also worked as a senior solicitor with the Youth Legal Service at Victoria Legal Aid and as a Legal Officer with the Department of Justice, Victoria. More recently he worked for UNICEF in Florence as a member of a team which examined the impact of the Convention on the Rights of the Child after its first 10 years in force. He is currently a visiting fellow with the ICIL in the Law Faculty where he is working on a Commentary to the Convention on the Rights of the Child with Professor Philip Alston from the European University Institute in Florence.
