Sundhya's area of scholarship may be defined loosely as 'Globalisation and Law'. Its central concern is the changing role of law and legal institutions in the context of processes commonly united under the rubric of 'globalisation'. Sundhya's research troubles traditional disciplinary boundaries and cuts across distinctions between 'public' and 'private' behaviours and regulations as traditionally construed, and the categories of 'economic' and 'non-economic' in new ways. Sundhya's particular concern is global governance and the various national and trans-national regulatory practices (including law) through which governance is effected, most pointedly in the context of the relationship between North and South. To that end, Sundhya's work engages with public international law, international economic law and a range of critical approaches to law and legal theory, including postcolonial, post-structural and feminist theories.
