Dr. Hughes joined the Faculty of Law in July 2001 as Dean of the Faculty. She had previously held the Mary Louise Lynch Chair in Women and Law at the Faculty of Law at the University of New Brunswick since 1992, following terms as the Alternate Chair of the Ontario Pay Equity Hearings Tribunal and Vice-Chair of the Ontario Labour Relations Board. She is an arbitrator and mediator and has acted as a consultant for government. Professor Hughes has taught in the areas of constitutional law, feminist legal theories and dispute resolution. She has spoken and published extensively in those areas, as well as in labour law, issues relating to equality, legal education and judicial independence. Her current research agenda includes a book length consideration of Canada’s current constitutional ethos, involvement in a national constitutional casebook and a national labour law casebook and co-organization of a conference on the rule of law.
